“Christmas isn’t a season. It’s A Feeling.” – Edna Ferber

Only 9 days to go till the big day! Who else is excited? With the street lights glistening in the sky and our favourite department stores puling out the stops for festive window displays, it’s starting to look a lot like Christmas.

The holiday season shouldn’t only be expeirenced when your out and about. Ideally, you should have that festive feeling in your own home. If you truly want to get in the spirt of Christmas; curl up on the sofa and sip on Christmas flavoured tea, get some candles burning, and of course indulge in some sparkly Christmas decor. It’s truly the most wonderful time of the year.

Christmas is more than a look, it’s a feeling. It feels warm, loving, and in my opinion decadent. Here are some of my tips on how to get that festive feeling at home.

It’s been said that tea is like a hug in a cup. Who doesn’t love a nice warm hug? I am an avid tea drinker but this time of year I like to spice it up with a Christmas tea selection. When it comes to Christmas tea think flavours like cinnamon, cloves, oranges and ginger.

Serve up your Chirstmas in a cup to your guests, or simply take some time out for yourself indulge in the taste of Christmas. Personally, I think your tea will taste even better if you drink out of a Christmas themed mug. Might as well go all out.

Candles are aesthetically pleasing anytime of year. When I’m curled up on the sofa there’s something about seeing candle light flickering on my coffee table that is extremely comforting, especially on a cold winter’s night.

It’s also great to know that when guests arrive my home will smell delicious! Candles are a great way to create a festive ambience; you can invest in a Christmas candle or keep it classic with warmer and robust fragrances. Right now I am loving Jo Malone’s Honeysuckle & Davana.

It goes without saying that your Christmas tree will most likely be the pièce de résistance in your home. Last year, my tree was quite traditional and filled with lots of red. However, this year I decided to scale back opting for a fresher look; decorating my tree with gold, white, and lots of glitter ornaments.

Decorate according to your taste, get creative and most importantly have fun! If your lagging behind and haven’t put your tree up yet, worry not just get it done before the 25th because truth be told it’s not really Christmas without a tree.

Other pieces which will make your home look more festive include garland, miniature trees and of course my personal favourite a nutcracker.

There is a lovely bible scripture which states “It is more blessed to give than to receive” (Acts 20:35). Sharing with your friends and family is such a lovely feeling.  Also, don’t be shy to treat yourself. Feel free to wrap up your Christmas treats and pop them under the tree to open on the big day. Doesn’t matter if your already know what’s underneath all that glittery wrapping paper, give yourself something to look forward too and remember you deserve it.
